For this cartoon the biological concept is reproduction. Both parents thing that the child will have their dominant gene of having a human head, but in the end the child gets both undesired parts – the recessive gene is not having a head, and the child is a combination of fish and horse bodies. The information about ...

The tortoises of the Galapagos Islands are the most interesting and perplexing subjects for many scientists that support the idea of evolution, including the famous Charles Darwin. Giant tortoises were very common during the Pleistocene era, but now most of them are extinct (those on the islands of Mascarenes became extinct in 1804, and those on Seychelles have a very ...

To continue in the same area of biology as the previous post, I would like to discuss the magnetic compasses in animals. It has recently been discovered that birds and bats use magnetic particles in their brains to navigate Earth’s magnetic field.

swallows

Although the swallows, that’s what my neighbors and I think that they are, are not out in full force in this picture, one can glimpse a solitary one (the small blur). Their population resides in the chimney of the apartment buildings next to my house. I found that these birds connected to the biology of a changing world ...

Robert Edmund Jones (12 December 1887- 26 November 1954) was an American scenic designer. Jones is credited with incorporating the new stagecraft into the American drama. Jones’s designs sought to integrate the scenic elements into the storytelling instead of having them stand separate and indifferent from the play’s action. His visual style, often referred to as simplified realism, combined ...

Banned and Dangerous Art » 11/28 Student Recital

Posted 12 months ago

On November 28, I went to see the Music Department’s last student recital. I’ve been to several of these recitals before and I enjoy them because the performances are usually very impressive and because (I’ll admit) they only last about 30 minutes. During this recital there were several piano pieces. There was also one very long piece that was performed by ...

Last Friday night I went to the UMW-Community Symphony Orchestra’s performance of “Heroes Past and Present: Ghosts of Christmas Past.” I was feeling really sick but I’m so glad I went because it was a great performance and it really got me into the holiday spirit. How is that argument challenged by the fact that the “bride’s” hand
looks more masculine than the “bride-groom’s” hand?

Which hand is controlling the movements of both?

You are now engaged in some major metaphysical questions–and your thinking and puzzling here is good. Wow, what an awesome image, and an even better set of questions to go along with it. Seems like the man’s hand is higher in the composition and controlling the movements, and I would guess that it was taken in the late 50s or early sixties given the texture of the actual photo.

In fact, the decade makes me think about ...
